Rev. Dr. Alfred B. Johnson (aka The Village Pastor), 80, of West Orange, formerly of Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, passed away on Thursday, December 3rd, 2020. Viewing will be Sunday, December 13th, from 2-5pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove St, Montclair, NJ. A Service of Thanksgiving via Zoom will be 7-9pm. Funeral service and interment will be private.
Rev. Johnson was pastor at Clinton Avenue Presbyterian Church in Newark, NJ for 21 years before retiring in 2010. Prior to his service in Newark, he worked various ministries over the course of 54 years in Turks and Caicos Islands, Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire), Nigeria and pastored congregations in England, Jamaica and New York. He was founder of the Jamaica Organization of New Jersey.
Rev. Johnson is survived by his wife, Dr. Abegail Douglas-Johnson, three sons - Andre Johnson and wife Anita (Maryland), Allister Johnson (New York) and Alwyn Johnson (Jamaica); two brothers - Winston Johnson and wife Valerie (Jamaica), Edward Johnson and wife Anita (Sweden); and two grandsons - Chase and Hunter. He was predeceased by siblings Ann Johnson, Arthur Johnson, Doreen Nation and Vincent Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ABJ Memorial Fund in support of mission projects near and dear to Rev. AB Johnson's heart.
