Obituary

Ann M James of Bloomfield NJ passed peacefully in her sleep on April 11, 2020. She was 96 years old. She is survived by her three children; Judy, Mary and Thomas. Her 4 grandchildren; Nora, Carrie, Zoe and Ann and 5 great grandchildren; Aiden, Autumn, Andrew, Mason and Abbey. She was born on May 15, 1923 to Giuseppe Prestifillippo, a shoemaker and Maryantonio Camarraro, a seamstress from Italy. She grew up in Glenridge NJ and moved to Bayshore Long Island with her husband Percy C James, an army captain in WWII and a lifelong employee of the Prudential insurance company. They eventually relocated to Bloomfield where she lived close to her very large family.

Ann was loved by all who encountered her and will always be remembered for her love of cooking huge family dinners with her 5 sisters and 2 brothers and her parents who she is with now. There was never a dull moment with Ann in the kitchen or the garden and she helped to bring great joy into people's lives with her smile and her food. She was one of the most positive and loving people in the world and a true light and friend to her family and people in the neighborhood. Ann did her best to carry on the traditions of 'the old days' as her mother and sisters taught her, just as she taught her children and their children. She was a devote catholic who attended Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield until she was no longer able to make the trip. It has been said that Ann was the closest thing to a saint that was alive and walking among us and that heaven gained another angel this month. She will be greatly missed as she touched the hearts of many people during her life and will be spoken of for many years to come. The next time you hear someone singing Amazing Grace, think of Ann, it was a song that we heard her sing in church all our lives. You are missed and you are loved.

Ann will be buried on the Thursday the 16th in the afternoon in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair NJ. A mass at Sacred Heart followed by a repast luncheon will occur in the future when the country returns to the 'new normal'. God bless us all.
