Obituary

Arthur Carleton Walker of Montclair, New Jersey, passed away at Mountainview Gardens LTC in Cedar Crest, Pompton Plains on Monday, May 11th. He was born on July 14, 1943, in Montclair, New Jersey, to the late Ralph Carleton and Dorothy Walker (nee Riker).

An Army veteran, Art (aka Pops, Artie, Little Artie, Tank, BeerBelly, and the Mayor) is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Patricia Cooper, with whom he recently celebrated their 60-year anniversary. He is survived by both his children, Barbara Katona (husband Ed Katona) and Arthur C. Walker, Jr. (wife Lynn Erickson-Walker).

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher Gannon, Melissa Rodriguez (husband Xavier Rodriguez), Prescott Walker (husband Ethan Walker), and Cooper Walker; his step-grandchildren Edward Katona III (wife Krystal), Daniel Katona, and Ted Arthur; and his great-grandchildren Ethan Katona and Eddasyn Katona. Art also leaves behind a multitude of cousins, godchildren, family members, and friends, who will miss him dearly.

Art earned a Master's degree in accounting from Seton Hall University. He had a long and distinguished career as Controller, Real Estate investor, Partner, CPA, and CFO. Ultimately he retired as CFO of L+R Distributors in Brooklyn, NY.

In his spare time, Art loved everything related to the Jersey shore, boating, and the water. He spent his days down at the Jersey Shore and could usually be found picking up his daily Wawa coffee, boating out in the bay, fishing/crabbing, feeding the seagulls (especially, Henry) by hand (right in front of the 'No Feeding the Seagulls' sign), taking his family out for a lagoon cruise, all the while talking to everyone he met along the way. He beautifully restored a 1963 Corvette, which came to him in boxes, and enjoyed bringing it to car shows for all to enjoy. He loved to travel with his wife and took many cruises around the world making many close friends along the way.

Known for his unique sense of humor, he always had a joke to tell, a funny story to share, or a prank to pull. With his radiant smile and infectious laughter, he could brighten any room he walked into. He would help out anyone who needed it - from putting up others' wallpaper until late into night, doing others' tax returns, running to get someone a generator in a snowstorm, shoveling the neighbors walkway, or towing a stalled boat back to the docks - he always came through and just jumped right in no questions asked.

A full life well-lived, Arthur will be remembered for his dedication to family and friends, his professional accomplishments, and the many lives he touched throughout his 82 years amongst us.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31st from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove Street, Montclair, NJ. A funeral prayer service will begin at 4:15 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers (especially given the one day visitation/service and his wishes to be cremated), the family's preference would be for any memorial contributions to be made to the 'Cedar Crest Scholarship Fund' (or alternatively any charity of your choice). If so inclined, please make checks payable to Cedar Crest Scholarship Fund and note "SCH: In Memory of Arthur Walker" on the memo line. Please mail a check to "Cedar Crest 1, Cedar Crest Drive, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444; Attn: Philanthropy Dept."

Godspeed Pops, you will be very sorely missed but remembered oh-so-very fondly! We can't wait to see you fully healthy again showing us all the fishing spots you scout out for us in Heaven.
