Cinton "Honey" Lewis:
On June 3, 1951, Clinton Lewis was born to the late Christina Lewis (nee Griffith) and the late Prince Albert Lewis of Newark, N.J. This welcomed addition to this hardworking family, was the youngest of three (3) children; His eldest sister Christina, and his older brother Prince Albert Lewis, Jr. (deceased) were ecstatic with the arrival of their new baby brother.
Eventually, the family moved to Montclair, N.J. where Clinton or "Honey," as he was affectionately known, attended Nishuane Elementary School, Hillside Middle School, and finally Montclair High, from where he graduated in 1970. During his high school years, there were a plethora of females interested in "Honey"…(Where do you think he got that name?) But one, in particular, Pamela Swan, won his heart. The two were married and soon, had a bundle of joy of their own, Clinton Tyreese Lewis. Wanting to provide for his family and with a burning desire to serve his country, Clinton made the decision to join the United States Army, where he served from 1972 to1975. An honest, brave and upright soldier, he was awarded the prestigious National Defense Service Medal during his tenure.
After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Armed Services, "Honey" attended and graduated from the New York Culinary Institute in 1979. It was in this environment that he thrived. His natural creativity was an absolute plus in the kitchen; He often made exotic dishes, such as Turkey Florentine, Lobster Flambe, Filet Mignon stuffed with Chesapeake Blue Crab. His courses were exquisite and delighted the palate of everyone with whom he dined.
Unfortunately, the tolls of time ended his union with Pam, but he met Debra Beverly, and their relationship blossomed. Debra's daughter Chanda, became "Honey's" daughter. The daughter that he doted upon until the day he passed…a daughter who loved and admired him with all of her being. From his union with Debra, another son was born, Jason Tyron Lewis. To all three (3) of his children he leaves a legacy of love and hard work.
"Honey" was one of the most gregarious people you could ever hope to meet. His sense of humor, his ability to make you feel as though you were the only person in the room, were qualities that fully supported him in his business endeavors, and in Life. Not only was he employed at Drew University, in Madison, N.J. as a head chef, for decades, he began his own company, Trolley Caterers, that thrived for a number of years, as well. People would call and place orders from far and near to experience the delectable delights that he created!
Everyone in this town knew and loved "Honey" Lewis; and if you didn't have the opportunity to get to know him, you missed out on one of the greatest personalities EVER!
This father…this brother,,, this friend, now leaves to mourn his three (3) children, Clinton Tyreese Lewis, Chanda Williams, and Jason Tyron Lewis. Also mourning his passing are his sister, Christine Irving (nee Lewis), an Aunt Annie Lambson, nine (9) grandchildren, Clinton Tyreese Lewis II, Dazmyne Lewis, Nikhylah Lewis, Jason Tyron Lewis II, Justin Lewis, Anaya Lewis, Elijah Williams and Ahteona Williams. And of course, there will be multitudes of other relatives, friends and business associates who will miss the vibrancy and sweetness of Clinton "Honey" Lewis.
