Daniel O'Connell died in Montclair, NJ on September 17, 2024 after a life richly lived. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Angela Duddy O'Connell, their four children, their spouses and seven grandchildren. Nora Hart (Matthew Hart), Ruth Maurandy (Jean-Pierre Maurandy), Patrick O'Connell (Antoinette O'Connell) and Sarah Eastman (Greg Eastman) and his seven beloved grandchildren: Danny Hart, Ginny Maurandy, Evelyne Maurandy, Brendan Eastman, Emmett Eastman, James O'Connell & Catherine O'Connell. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Charles O'Connell and sisters Claire O'Connell and Elizabeth Collins and was predeceased by his parents, Jerome and Nora O'Connell, and siblings: Katherine, Helen, William, Marie, John, Louise, Ann & Patricia. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and went to Boston College High School and Boston College, a "Double Eagle," throughout his life he was a die-hard Boston College Football fan. He also received a Master of Science from Carnegie Mellon University and served in the US Navy on the USS Arlington from 1969 to 1971. After many years with multinational accounting firms, he founded his own practice in Montclair. He served as an independent accountant for the Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York (PGGNY) for more than 25 years. In 2019, he was awarded from PGGNY a lifetime achievement award for services in the financial and philanthropic sector. He loved nothing more than being with his dear wife, Angela, his children and grandchildren in the beautiful garden Angela created, designed and tended to during the 50 plus years he lived in Montclair. The visiting will be at Caggiano Memorial Home on Tuesday, September 24 from 4pm – 7pm and the funeral mass will follow on Wednesday, September 25 at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00 am.Interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Autism Society of Maryland.
