Doris E
Williams
d. Jan 13, 2026
Friday
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair
1:00 - 2:00 pm (Eastern time)
Doris Ethel (Wheatle) Williams – known as “Dearheart” to her husband and “Mom” to her children passed peacefully in her sleep at home on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
Doris was born on October 9, 1920 in Montreal where she was raised. She graduated from Concordia University, in Montreal, with A Bachelors of Science Degree in Medical Technology. After graduation, Doris sought employment opportunities in the United States of America. She subsequently managed hematology labs at Overlook Hospital in Summit and Community Hospital in Montclair. During this time, Doris met the love of her life-Harold Peter Williams. The two married and started a family in Montclair.
Doris was an avid volunteer and arts-and-crafts aficionado. She volunteered for the entirety of her life. Most notably, Doris volunteered at the Sawtelle School in Montclair for over ten years and her beloved Unitarian Church. At the Sawtelle School, she worked with autistic children and was recognized in a Star Ledger article, “Jersey’s Helping Hands: Together, a couple helps autistic children”, for her dedicated volunteerism. At the Unitarian Church, Doris volunteered in the Church Office. Additionally, she discovered a way to combine volunteerism with arts & crafts. Specifically, Doris knitted hats to be donated to those in need or to be used as fundraisers by the Church’s youth group. Over the years, she knitted well over a thousand hats for the cause. Helping others was simply part of Doris’s DNA. Whether it was family members, neighborhood children, members of the Church or complete strangers, her life was dedicated to the service of others.
Doris was an active member of the Cosmopolitan Club & British Women’s Club in Montclair.
Doris is survived by her loving husband, Harold Peter Williams, son, George Wheatle Williams and her grandchildren, Chase Eva and Ahmael. She is also survived by her many loving nephews and nieces.
Doris is predeceased by her daughter, Melbra Wheatle Williams.
