Obituary

Dorothy Margaret Redmond

February 4, 1928 – June 21, 2026

Dorothy "Dottie" Margaret Redmond (nee Burns) of Belvidere, NJ passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026 in Livingston, NJ at age 98. Born to Aloysius and Agatha (O'Brien) Burns in Newark, NJ, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Leroy "Roy" Redmond and her brothers, Alfred and John.

Dottie graduated from St. Michael's High School, Newark and started her career at the Prudential Insurance Company as an executive secretary. After meeting her future husband at a dance organized for returning WWII servicemen, she married and focused her energies on their growing family. When her youngest child entered school, Dottie returned to work as an executive secretary in advertising firms and national insurance companies. After moving to Liberty

Township, she worked at Panther Valley Construction, The Seeing Eye, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

She and Roy were beach lovers, and the family spent many summers at Mountain Lake. The two were also tireless globetrotters and visited all seven continents. For many years, they also wintered at Waikiki Beach, Hawaii.

Dottie was proud of her Irish heritage and committed to the cause of reunification, eventually receiving her Irish citizenship. She adored movies, theater and music, especially traditional Irish folk and romantic songs by Engelbert Humperdinck and Hawaiian singer Danny Couch. She was also a great lover of dogs, especially beagles.

She is survived by her four children: Cynthia Byram (Stephen), Gail Lyons, Roy Redmond (Judith), and Maureen George (Mitchell Paul); by her seven grandchildren: Colin (Laura), Conor (Katerina), Brendan, Cáit (Andrew), Liam (Pauline), Séan (Amanda), and Kieran; and by her four great-grandchildren: Ruairí, Aislinn, Finn, and Amelia, all of whom she cherished.

Her final resting place will be in her beloved Wicklow, Ireland.
