Edith Gaeta was born in Verona, NJ on April 15, 1926 to Angelo and Filomena Guancione. Edith was always family-first, enjoying throughout her life the company of her 50-plus first-cousins, as well as many friends she called family. She adored her beloved siblings Arthur, Angelo, Leonard, Victor, Mary, and Eleanor, who predeceased her.
Edith was the first to congratulate you for positive things, and the most steadfast supporter for others in tough times. She was a fan of opera performances, especially La Traviata and recordings by Luciano Pavarotti. Edith was always non-presumptuous, most looking forward simply to her Italian bread and coffee each day, and often a diner stop with her sisters Mary and Eleanor. She enjoyed cooking, reading the Italian Tribune, and watching the occasional Yankee game or her favorite movie, The Sound of Music.
In her early life she worked in the family's dry-cleaning business, often taking the trolley from school directly to the shop. In 1957 she married her husband Ferdinand Gaeta. They lived in Newark before making a permanent home in Nutley, NJ, where they raised their two children, Fredrick (wife Elaine) and Janice (husband Guy). In addition to her children and their spouses, she was always most proud of her nephew Kenneth Wadle, her grandchildren Danielle Zetterstom and her husband Kevin, Jaqueline Burke and her husband Ed, Jessica Gaeta, Nicholas Ebel, and Michelle Ebel.
In her later years, Edith found the most joy in spending time with her five young great-grandchildren: Corina, Nina, and Tyler Burke, and Evelyn and Vincent Zetterstrom.
In lieu of flowers, it would be Edith's wish that contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
