It is with great sadness that the family of George Porter announce his passing. He died
peacefully with family by his side at Memorial Sloan Kettering on July 18, 2023.
Lovingly remembered by his wife Norma Jeanne, his children Greggory, Christopher (Maria),
Stephanie Riccio (Matthew) and his grandson Matty Riccio, his sister Mary and brother John
(Cheryl). He is predeceased by his parents George and Mary.
George grew up in Cedar Grove, NJ, and developed lifelong bonds with his friends. He enjoyed
reading, fishing, hosting parties that included grilling good food and sharing his wonderful sense
of humor. He was kind and generous. At Christmas he embodied Santa Claus and brought the
spirit of love to all.
George served his country with the USAF. His incredible intellect was continuously tested by
troubleshooting airplane guidance systems and later teaching auto-pilot repair. He retired from
the USAF in 1993. He attended Syracuse University and graduated with a BA and master's
degree in English. After retiring from the Air Force he became a Technical Writer until 2019.
George emanated a light and kindness that everyone could feel.
