James L. Van Note Jr., 82, a longtime resident of Montclair, passed away on April 28, 2025. Born in Montclair, New Jersey, he was raised in Bloomfield and graduated from Bloomfield High School before proudly serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Jim spent his career building and renovating homes, a craft he took great pride in.



He cherished his time at the Jersey Shore, especially in Normandy Beach, where he created lasting memories with his family.



Jim is survived by his son, Ryan Van Note, and his wife, Megan; his daughter-in-law, Meghan; his sister, Patricia Recchia, and her husband, Victor; and his beloved grandchildren AJ, Kat, Patrick, Nate and Tess. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Joanne Lynch and former wife, Brigitte.



He was predeceased by his parents, Lillian and James Van Note Sr.; his son, James Van Note III; and his brother, Lawrence Van Note.
