Kathleen "Kate" Carol Khachaturian
Age 76
October 15, 1947 – October 2, 2024
Kathleen "Kate" Carol Khachaturian, aged 76, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, while on
vacation with her husband Armen and close friends. Born on October 15, 1947, in Glen Ridge, New
Jersey, to William and Edith Allen, Kate lived a life filled with love, community, and adventure.
Kate began her career as a dedicated Registered Nurse and later earned her Bachelor of Arts in English
Literature from Upsala College and a Master's in English Literature from Drew University, balancing her
passion for literature with a love of service to others.
In 1970, Kate married the love of her life, Armen Khachaturian. Together they raised two children, Adam
and Sara, and later became the proud grandparents of six grandchildren. Kate devoted herself to her
family and was an exceptional hostess, often showing her love through cooking and bringing everyone
together with her gourmet dinners and welcoming heart.
A woman of many talents and interests, Kate enjoyed needlepoint, reading, and swimming. She spent
every summer by the ocean in Sea Bright, New Jersey, a place that always brought her peace. Her love of
travel took her across the globe, where she immersed herself in art and culture. Despite her worldly
adventures, she was always happiest when surrounded by her family and friends, especially during the
holidays, when her home was filled with love and laughter.
Kate was also deeply involved in her community. She volunteered actively at Union Congregational
Church and was a beloved member of the Junior League of Montclair, where she sang for seniors as part
of the Humdingers Singing Troupe. Her passion for flowers led her to serve on the board of the Garden
Club of Montclair, where she found joy in arranging beautiful bouquets.
Kate is survived by her devoted husband Armen, her son Adam and his three children—Tristan, Zoe, and
Lucian—her daughter Sara and her husband Michael Spurlock and their three children—Genevieve,
Tobias, and Brittany. She also leaves behind her brother David Allen, his wife Jeanie, and their sons
Matthew and Tim.
A viewing will be held at Caggiano Memorial Home in Montclair, NJ, on Sunday, October 6, from 1 to 5
PM. A Memorial Service will take place at Union Congregational Church in Upper Montclair on Monday,
October 7, at 10:00 AM. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made in Kate's memory to Union
Congregational Church or the Garden Club of Montclair, organizations that were close to her heart.
Kate will be remembered for her generous spirit, her love of family and friends, and her tireless
dedication to her community. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness and warmth will live
on in all who knew her.
