Kenneth V. Miscia, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and educator, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024, at the age of 90 in Brick, NJ.
A longtime Montclair resident, Kenny graduated from Montclair High School in 1952, where he was an outstanding All-County center under the coaching of Clary Anderson. He earned County, State, and All-Metropolitan recognition during his senior year at MHS.
He graduated in 1956 from what was then Montclair State Teachers College, earning both a Bachelor's Degree in Business and a Master's Degree in Education. While at MSC, he played both varsity football and varsity baseball. In football, he was elected Most Valuable Player for three seasons and served as team captain in his final two years. In his senior year, he received the coveted Sandy MacMillen Award, the Montclair Athletic Commission Award for outstanding student-athletes, and later, in 1971, the A.C. Coder Alumni Baseball Award for his contributions to education and athletics.
Following his graduation, Kenny served as an assistant football coach at MSC for eight years. He was later inducted into the Montclair State College Hall of Fame for football on October 6, 1979.
Kenny dedicated 11 years to teaching at Watsessing Elementary School in Bloomfield before transitioning to East Hanover, where he served as an Elementary School Principal for 27 years until his retirement in 1995.
A proud veteran of the New Jersey National Guard, Kenny's service extended beyond the military. He was a dedicated member of the Montclair 4th of July Committee, the Montclair Civil Rights Commission, and the Montclair Board of Education, serving for many years on each.
Kenny is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Van Splinter Miscia; his three children, Kenneth Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Kathleen Miscia Murphy, and Peter J. and his wife Doli; his brother Joseph and his sister Marie Elena; and his adored grandchildren, Thomas Hubbard, Christopher Hubbard and his wife Helena, Karlie Miscia, Emmy Miscia, Joseph Miscia, Jack Miscia, Tristen Miscia, Haven Miscia, Sebastian Miscia, Evan Baquerizo, and Sofia Baquerizo.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph F. and Mary V. (née DiGeronimo) Miscia, and his sister, Margaret Testa (née Miscia).
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, January 31st at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Montclair. Viewing Thursday from 4-8pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove Street, Montclair, NJ.
