Marie was born in Montclair, New Jersey on August 16th, 1936 . Her parents, James and May Maher were Montclairites and the next 3 generations would follow in their footsteps. Marie grew up across the street from Immaculate Conception and attended grammer school and high school there. Later on, she attended St. Joseph's Nursing School and Seton Hall University. She was a strong, kind and compassionate sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother & friend. Marie worked as a RN at Mountainside Hospital and with Dr. Boodin helping many patients along the way.
Marie later married Bob McKeown. They loved to travel to exotic places like Australia where they lived for 3 years. Together they forged a wonderful life. She is survived by her 5 children; Karen, Robert Jr. (Diane), Tom (Sue) Paul (Kathy) and Richard (Gretchen), her 13 grand children; Dina Sutton (Rob), Michael DeFilippo (Karen), Daniel DeFilippo (Jen), Sean McKeown (Stephanie), Courtney Masi (Nick), Matthew, Megan, Ryan, Grace, Kayla, Paige, Brendan & Caitlin McKeown, and 9 great grandchildren; Daniela, Joseph, Dominic, Michael, Avielle, & Ensley DeFilippo, Bobby Sutton Jr., Connor & Declan McKeown and a great granddaughter on the way with Courtney and Nick in December.
Marie loved nothing more than to gather the whole family together for everyone's birthday which with this huge clan was about once a month. She loved Thanksgiving and made the most amazing turkey gravy! Marie would shop for everyone and bought them the most thoughtful presents.
Marie is predeceased by her parents James & May Maher, Sister Jean Snider, Brother James Maher, sister Claire Maher, and devoted husband of 60 years, Robert V. McKeown. She is also survived by her wonderful and funny sister Kathie Cocca. Marie was a woman of strong faith and a treasured friend. Her greatest joy was spending time with family & friends and watching jeopardy. Out of respect we never called between 7-7:30. Bob & Marie lived on Waterbury Road, Gordonhurst Ave and later retired in Lakewood, NJ. Donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's hospital in her name.
