Mary Doris Barrington, "Dodie," of Upper Montclair, passed away on Sunday, May 3rd. She was born October 5, 1950 to John Patrick and Doris (nee Reap) Barrington in Newark, NJ. She graduated from NJIT in 1972 with a degree in chemical engineering and from Seton Hall University in 1977 with her MBA.
For many years, Dodie was a district manager at Lucent Technologies at a time when few women worked in engineering. Among her many roles, she was responsible for laying the groundwork for the cellular network we use today. Later in life, she worked as a math and science teacher, an alumni relations coordinator at NJIT, and was an active member of her local library board and parish church. In addition to possessing a brilliant technical mind, Dodie was a lifelong lover of the theater and enjoyed time both on and off the stage.
She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 50 years, Gesuele Lodato; her son John Patrick and daughter Elizabeth; her sisters, Michele (Bill) Hopkins and Joann (Bill) Zucker; brothers-in-law Joseph (Dolores) Lodato and Daniel (Mary) Lodato, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both of her beloved parents.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1pm on Friday, May 8th at St. Cassian's Church in Upper Montclair. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 7th, from 4-8pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove St, Montclair.
