Ouida Alexandria Campbell was born July 21, 1935 to the late
Mavis Esmeralea Moses McKenzie and Winston George Bernard in
Montego Bay Jamaica West Indies. Ouida was the eldest of 25 siblings
and was preceded in death by Neville, Olyne, Peter, Sadie, Hector,
Gene, Ramond and Noel. She was called home to be with the Lord on
Friday August 16, 2024.
Ouida early education was in Jamaica and she attended Open Bible
College as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She received her
acceptance for nursing school which she pursued in the United States.
She met and married the love of her life, the late James Nathaniel
Campbell. A union that lasted sixty one years. Prior to this union, she
had her first born John Creare, and from her union to James came
Andria, Diane, the late David Campbell and Steven.
Ouida moved to the Untied States in 1962. She was employed by a
dental company in New York. After it closed down, she went to work
for Bamberger's (now known as Macy's) as an operator. Later on she
started working for Overbrook Hospital (now known as called Essex
County Hospital). Soon after she pursued her career as a nurse at
Felician College in Lodi, NJ.
Ouida attended Full Gospel Church in Livingston, NJ where Pastor
Ronald Despasquale is the leader of the church. Her favorite gospel
hymn was "Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like
me. I once was lost but now I'm found. Was blind but now I see." This
is her testimony.
Ouida was a loving, kind, very sociable and outgoing person. Most
of her hobbies including shopping, sewing, reading, knitting, cooking
and being present for her family & friends. She lived by the rule, God
first, then the family and being very active with the work of the Lord for
89 years.
Ouida leaves to cherish her memories: Son John (Kids: Marsh,
Jade, Temica Adaja, Lead Tremaine and John Jr,. Daughters: Andria and
Diane, Son Steve (Wife Lisa, grand-daughters: Tiara
Lanyah and Kareem Jr.>, Ashley and Amber
Eliana>) and grand son Anthony (great grands Lanye, London and
Lauren). Siblings: Yvonne, Albert, Lowell, Cora, Paulm Michael,
Gloria, Lorna, Eleanor (Rosie), Joan, Pamella, Sylvia, Winston, Oscor &
Brian and a host of family and friends. May her soul rest in perfect
peace. Farewell my love
Following the Funeral Service, family and friends are invited to
Central Presbyterian Church for the repast.
