PAULA DEFURIA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends on February 26, 2025.
Paula lived her life with a deep faith in God and a true sense of generosity to others less fortunate. To those who knew her, she would always think with her heart first and never hesitate to give all that she had to her family, friends, or even a stranger in need. Her life was enriched with countless memories and stories of a large and loving family, for which she often served as the family historian, fondly recalling every family member with exacting detail, and keeping many memories of her family alive for the next generations. She truly enjoyed spending her time talking with her family and friends and her ability to retell the stories of old was amazing.
For those of us who were blessed to enter Paula's kitchen, you were sure to enjoy the best Italian Sunday dinner served with love.
Paula is survived by her devoted son, Joseph A. DeFuria and his wife, Kara DeFuria, and her loving grandchildren, John Joseph, Alexa Nicole and Matthew Paul DeFuria. Paula is also survived by her former husband, Joseph DeFuria, and was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Susan DeFuria, and her brother, Michael Abbasso. Paula was the daughter of the late Paul and Molly Abbasso. Along with her immediate family, Paula is survived by her nieces, many loving cousins and family, including her "sister" Donna Joyce and her family, her cousin Cindy Marazo, and her lifelong friends Marlene (Montano) Zazzali, Donna Marie Montano and Josephine Immerso, who she thanks for your love and support on her journey through life.
The family will be honoring her wishes and life with a funeral mass on Monday March 3, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, Bloomfield, NJ. The family will gather before and after the Mass. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Make-A-Wish NJ in her honor.
Paula's wishes are that her friends and family remember her legacy with laughter and joy. May the Lord be with you.
