Richard Roger Burrell (Ricky) made his debut on August 14, 1954 to his loving parents, Roger and Julia Burrell. Ricky and his sister Raushaunna were raised in East Orange, NJ steeped in christian values from his adoring, protective, and extended family. He attended East Orange and Montclair public schools where he met lasting friends, and was known as “Mr. Popular”. Ricky was employed at Eastern Airlines and subsequently with the township of Montclair, where he retired in April, 2017. He served as the Local Union President of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal employees. He was a staunch defender of his fellow coworkers. Ricky, Mr. Popular, was kind, loved his family and always extended himself to help family and friends. He was an exceptionally protective and loving husband, father, grandfather and an absolutely doting great grandfather to Elias. Oldies were his favorite music and as quiet as it was kept, Ricky could sing…in other words, he could blow! Ricky was always well-groomed, Mr. Smooth on the dance floor and JoAnn always felt safe in his arms for over 38 years of marriage. Ricky and JoAnn’s home was a refuge for many, no matter the circumstances. He enjoyed cooking, had 5 BBQ grills and was a master of Eggplant Parmesan, Turkey Wings and Ribs. He never left a crowded room without making new friends for life. Time with Ricky was nothing short of amazing. He will be missed and forever loved until the next lifetime. Ricky leaves treasured memories for his loving wife JoAnn, daughter Cyndi Mayer (Herbert), Sisters; Raushaunna Hogans (Daryl), Gale Mac Donald, Camiel Swan, Diane Diggs (Dannie), Linda Acevedo, Deborah Chibar, Brothers; Dennis Garnette and Lonnie Hicks. Grandson Rey Harris II, Granddaughter Ryan-Ashley Harris, Great Grandson Elias Hunter Harris, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
