Obituary

Robert Meyer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed ENT physician, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024 at the age of 82 in Greenwood Lake, NY. He was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer last week.

Born on February 28, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, Robert grew up with a German work ethic that kept him going into his 80s. His final water ski was at the age of 80 and he hiked down the street (hiking poles at the ready) every day with his wife, Maria.

Robert pursued a distinguished career as an ear, nose, and throat specialist at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, NJ, where he dedicated many years of his life to his patients and the medical community. In addition to a distinguished career, his most cherished accomplishment is his loving and committed marriage to the love of his life, Maria Meyer, whom he met in Germany while in medical school.

A resident of Wayne, NJ, for much of his life, Robert raised five wonderful children: Dirk, Peter, Alex, Marc, and Tina. He instilled in them the values of hard work, ingenuity, and integrity, which they carry with them to this day. As a father and grandfather, Robert showed his love by showing up, always present for family milestones and celebrations.

In retirement, Robert enjoyed the tranquility of Greenwood Lake, NY, where he built 3 houses on his property with only the help of friends and family. Robert's labor of love was always tinkering on the mechanical and engineering systems around the property. He could fix anything. Although the resulting system would be unnecessarily complex, every knob and switch would be cleanly labeled with his signature label maker—spelling optional. His family will continue to smile every time they see his labeled directions throughout the property. His quiet presence, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, his older sister Doris, five children, eleven grandchildren, and countless friends and colleagues who will always remember him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Our Lady Queen of Peace honoring Robert's legacy of care and faith. https://www.wesharegiving.org/app/giving/WeShare-20000305?tab=home He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and his profession, and for the love he shared with all who had the privilege of knowing him.
