Rose "Rosina Maria" Nigro, age 94 previously resided in Montclair, most recently in
Glen Ridge passed peacefully on June 11, 2023.  She leaves behind four nieces, Lois
Ann Tobia Carkhuff (husband, William R. Carkhuff), Caryl Tobia Devlin (husband, James
T. Devlin), Joan Elizabeth Tobia and Nicole Nigro Speyer (husband Steve Speyer).  She
also leaves five great nieces and nephews, seven great-great nieces and nephews as
well as many beloved extended family members.
Rose was born on August 12, 1928, to Mr. and Mrs. John Nigro.  She is preceded in
death by her parents and siblings Annette and her husband Louis Tobia, Michael Nigro
and his wife Ann, Anthony Nigro and his wife Carol, and Giovanna Nigro.
Rose was a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt.  In earlier years she enjoyed extensive
travels and various community activities with her dear friends. Throughout her life she
utilized her advanced sewing skills designing beautifully tailored apparel, and
additionally shared her talents with her church in creating lovely sacristy items. Rose
was an avid tennis player and fan.  She generously volunteered for many years at the
local American Red Cross and was an active participant in various church ministries
and events.  Her professional occupation was in bookkeeping and in her later years
served as the bookkeeper for her parish.  She has been a wonderful presence in the life
of those blessed by her acquaintance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Montclair on August 12th at 10:30am, (Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 10am). In lieu of flowers, please make
donations in her memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Oratory, 94 Pine Street,
Montclair New Jersey 07042 (*designate funds to be restricted to restoration and
repairs*).
