Thomas Maxwell Perry was born on October 26, 1955 to his parents, Maxwell and Mary Perry in Montclair NJ, and suddenly passed away on March 19, 2025 at Clara Maass Hospital in Belleville, NJ.
Tommy was educated in the Montclair school system, graduating from Montclair High School in 1973. He was well known for his wrestling abilities in high school and loved to brag about it and his many awards. After graduating, Tommy joined the US Air Force, during which time he met and married his first wife Gerri (Lott). They shared many years together. He later met and married his second wife, Barbara (Giles), who had 4 children, Le'Channie, Rashon, Shantel and Michelle. You would often hear him calling her by his pet name, "Barbara-Barbara". They later became residents of Bloomfield.
Tommy retired from Montclair State University as a pipefitter, but also worked as an umpire for youth baseball games. He loved doing plumbing work, and would get so focused that he would talk to the pipes. He was passionate about fishing and spent a lot of time travelling up and down the east coast enjoying it alone or with friends. In his down time, when not watching Star Trek ("Live Long and Prosper", being one of his many quotes), he loved doing things with his hands, and you could find him on many days in his backyard gardening with his loving dogs nearby. He also loved riding his precious Harley trike. As everyone knows, Tommy was an avid sports fan. "RAIDERS" was often his greeting, and he also loved the Yankees.
Tommy is preceded in death by his father Maxwell and mother Mary, and wife Barbara. He is survived by his sisters Maxine Perry, Leanne [Gordon] McGriff; brothers Musaad Asukila, Carl [Nina], Daryl and Benjamin; stepchildren (Rahshon Strickland [Azhanay], Shantel Warren and Michelle Stevenson); 8 beloved grandchildren (Courtnee, Taz'Juan, Khalil, Adaija, Nevaeh, RJ, Indya and Heaven'lee), a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as many dear, dear friends.
The man, the myth, the legend … "THE TOMINATOR" … will be missed by one and by all. We love you!
Viewing for Tommy will be at Caggiano's Memorial Home at 62 Grove Street in Montclair, NJ on April 1, 2025 from 7-9 pm. The funeral will be on April 2, 2025 at 11 am. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield, NJ.
