Vincent J. Romano, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and longtime Montclair resident, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on April 30, 1938, in Jersey City, NJ, Vincent lived a full life dedicated to his family, community, and faith.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Constance V. Romano (née McCasland), with whom he built a meaningful life. Together, they raised four children: Enola, Vincent (Jennifer), Nicholas (Jasmine), and Anastasia. He was also the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Jesse, Andrew, Olivia, James, Marcus, and Xavier. He is also survived by his brother Anthony (Kathy) Romano. Vincent was predeceased by his father, Anthony Romano; his mother, Rose (Rizzo) Romano; and his daughter, Regina.
Vincent worked as a postal carrier in North Bergen, NJ, for over 30 years, where his friendly demeanor and reliability endeared him to his community. A proud veteran, Vincent served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during his time of service.
Prior to moving to Montclair, he resided in Union City, NJ. As a child, Vincent attended the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Union City that left a lasting impression on his spiritual life. Later in life, he was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, now Oratory, in Montclair, and St. Michael's Russian Catholic community in New York City.
A man of deep faith, Vincent loved his church and found joy in serving his parish communities. He was also an avid collector of religious stamps, combining his love for philately with his devotion to his faith. Vincent cherished family traditions, such as growing figs from tree cuttings passed down to him from his father. Though a quiet man by nature, he always had something meaningful to say and made a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
Vincent will be remembered as a man of great kindness, compassion, and quiet strength. He took pride in his work and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially the time he spent with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The wake will be held on Monday, September 16, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Caggiano Memorial Home in Montclair, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 17, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Oratory in Montclair, NJ.
